Neverwinter – Fancy some Dungeons and Dragons?
Fantasy MMORPG – In this free-to-play fantasy MMORPG you are transported to the forgotten realm of the much loved classic game Dungeons and Dragons. True fans of the series will quickly feel right at home. In our review we reveal whether even newbies to the series can expect to have just as much fun.
The city has been completely destroyed and undead followers of the lich queen Valindra are sieging the gates. Help is of need and here is where your adventure begins in this free-to-play fantasy MMORPG. You need to quickly grab yourself a weapon in order to decide the outcome of this war. But what’s the best way to do this? Read on to find out not only this, but also the most important features of Neverwinter:
Races, Classes… in this game you have plenty of choice:
Neverwinter starts, in true MMORPG fashion, with the character creation. You really have the burden of choice when first choosing your race. You can choose between the Dwarves, Half-Elves, Gnomes, Half-Orcs, Humans, Halflings, Elves and Drows (Dark-Elves). On top of this, you have the option to play around with the appearance of your character to make him look as unique as possible. But we’re not done yet. Now you need to choose a suitable class. There are the Guardian Fighter, Control Wizard, Devoted Cleric, Trickster Rogue and the Great Weapon Fighter to choose from. Fans of powerful magic will certainly be most comfortable with the mage, while the Rogue, for example, attacks from behind with his cunning abilities. Or are you more the type to just pull out your weapon and go charging at the opponent? Then the Great Weapon Fighter is definitely the right class for you.
It’s not called Dungeons and Dragons for nothing:
Neverwinter has a whole bunch of atmospheric cities and diverse areas but the dungeons, in particular, make this free-to-play fantasy MMORPG one of the best in its class. Dungeons can be found in every area, kitted out with secret passageways, hidden traps and other dangers. You can let your inner explorer run wild here and in doing so, have the chance of finding hidden treasure.
Diverse Battle System:
Just in case exploring gets a little bit boring, there comes a point where you’ll suddenly need to defend against attackers. In this case the game plays out like the familiar Hack and Slash games of old, coupled with queueable special attacks and other abilities. In addition, the wide range of different quests are on hand to dish out the experience and make levelling that bit easier.
Two hands are better than one:
Some monsters are too much even for the strongest warrior. There’s only one thing to do. Get support. This is particularly true for the raid instances and dungeons, where it’s suicide to venture in alone. The game allows you to journey with up to four companions. As the quests get harder, the experience and loot gets better and this alone makes cooperative play worthwhile. For those who would rather fight against other players, then simply take yourself (or a group of your friends) off to the PvP battles and let rip.
- Individual Character: Create your own unique and personal character from a range of 13 different races and classes
- Exciting Dungeons: Become an explorer and discover the many dungeons on offer with their secret passageways, traps and hidden treasure
- Lucrative Teamwork: Search for a maximum of 4 companions and enter raid dungeons to gain special loot and experience
- Big Range of Quests: Take a break from hunting monsters and complete the many different tasks on offer
The Bottom Line
Dungeons and Dragons fans will of course want to test out the free-to-play fantasy MMORPG. But even if you’re aren’t a fan, and the series is a bit unfamiliar to you, Neverwinter delivers enough varied content to ensure a ton of fun. The many different dungeons guarantee that you won’t get bored quickly and the raid instances really give you that much loved MMORPG feeling as you battle with four other people. The giant amount of quests are just the icing on the cake and make this game the real deal.
