Game Description

Describing the free-to-play fantasy MMORPG Lord of the Rings Online in a few sentences may be just as difficult as destroying the ring itself. Therefore we’ve summed up the main features.

The initial name of the game was Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar and was released in 2007. Since then five expansion packs have been released: Mines of Moria (2008), Siege of Mirkwood (2009), Rise of Isengard (2011), Riders of Rohan (2012), and Helm’s Deep (2013). These massive expansions extended the map, increased the number of the items, improved the leveling system, added more instances and while at all times ensuring maximum entertainment to guarantee no one gets bored.

The Story and Map:

The main story line consists of a series of books, which are subdivided into different chapters encompassing the quests.New books are added with content updates and while you travel from one region to the other, time changes as does the setting and NPCs.
The whole map of the game (so far) consists of two geographical areas: Eriador and Rhovanion. There are 24 regions, within these areas, which all have their own storyline and dynamic content to engage with. The largest settlement in each region is its capital, where players meet to trade, share knowledge and sometimes enter into combat. The whole map is enormous and consists of discoverable forests, swamps, open plains, magical lakes, and much more.

PvE, PvP, and PvMP:

PvP combats can be fought by inviting another player to duel, or in the gameplay form called Monster Play or Player vs Monster Player. This innovative option allows the player to control a high-level monster to fight freeps (other high-level players controlling their heroes) into order to control various keeps. Both parties gain ranks by defeating the other side allowing them to purchase chore updates and special equipment. Bands of up to six characters are called fellowships. They are necessary to enter instances and raids. Raids can contain 6 to 24 players and may be composed of up to four separate fellowships.
